Chicks!

We’re now raising our own chicks!  As of right now, they are barnyard mix.  Later on we will be separating the hens and roosters and selling purebred Buff Orpingtons, Rhode Island Reds, White Rocks, and White Leghorns.  Check our For Sale page!

More Developments

The rabbits are producing rapidly.  I have already sold lots of babies.  Jeffrey is doing great with his chickens.  He has two week old chicks and six week old chicks available now (check the “For Sale” page).  His big chickens are eight weeks old now and growing fast.  We have seven laying hens that will be for sale within the next few days.  We are fixing up our chicken coop.  The main part is building a fence for the outdoor run.  We are almost done though - it is coming together!  We are also working on the house little by little.  We are able to do so much more outside now that is weather is getting warmer.  The dogs are enjoying life.  Bullet and Snickers, our year-old barn cats, are both going to be having kittens soon.  Bear and Stinker, our younger barn cats, love playing with the dogs and are very affectionate.  Hopefully in the fall I will be getting some chicks of my own.  That’s all for now.

Princess had babies this morning.  I think there are seven - six dark ones and one light one.

Sage’s babies are getting big.  Their eyes are open now.

Around the Ranch in October

These pictures are from October last year, when we first started working on this place.  Looking through these pictures made me really miss this time of year!

Rabbits at the Ranch (and other things)

Rabbitry is our first business here at the ranch, and we are working on litters of New Zealands and pedigreed Californians.  Things are going great, we have a seven month old Dexter bull named Chief, a dog named Jasper, four cats (Bullet, Snickers, Bear, and a male we haven't named), and thirteen rabbits:  2 Californians, 3 Satins, 7 New Zealands, and an American Chinchilla.  We are searching for Satin does and an American Chinchilla buck to breed to the ones we have.  Recently we've been digging through 1-3 feet of snow since Winter Storm Kayla came through.  Thankfully, the weather is getting nice again, and the snow is melting.

We are now officially a registered business in Colorado!  We will eventually be raising and selling chickens, cattle, and maybe some other things in addition to the rabbits.  God is already blessing our efforts out here on the plains and we hope to continue to sustain ourselves with what we have and encourage others to do the same.
